What you do in a match

You begin with a town center, workers and a scout. Workers collect wood, food, gold and stone while you decide what to build next. A barracks opens the first military choices; houses make room for more workers and troops. Your opponent develops an economy on the other side of the map. The goal is to destroy their town center while keeping your own standing. Building, scouting and fighting happen at the same time.

Three decisions to learn first

Watch what resource is holding up your next purchase, what enemy unit needs a response, and where the next attack could arrive. These questions guide a match more usefully than memorizing a long build order. More workers help only if they have safe resources to collect. More archers help only if you can protect them from cavalry. A wall helps only if it covers a route the enemy actually needs.

Two ages, a manageable army

ageof.io keeps progression to two ages. Spears, archers and cavalry provide the core army, with blacksmith upgrades to support your choice. Reaching the second age opens siege weapons, monks and unit upgrades. Each addition has a clear job: a ram breaks buildings, a monk supports the army, and a better frontline buys time for ranged units. You can understand the main choices before learning every upgrade.

Control groups without constant clicking

Drag the mouse to select a group, then right-click to give an order. For an advance that engages enemies along the way, press R and left-click the destination. Save a selection with Ctrl plus a number from 1 to 5, then press that number to recall it. The on-screen hotkey guide and formation buttons let you learn controls as you need them. Units can engage automatically, so army composition and positioning remain useful even with a modest number of commands.

Choose how to begin

The tutorial introduces the basic controls and economy. Training offers three difficulty levels for practicing an opening at your own pace. Online 1v1 gives you a match against another side, while a private room lets you invite a friend directly. A guest profile is enough to begin; an account is available for saved online rating and monthly standings. This is a desktop browser game designed around a mouse and keyboard.

A useful first-match goal

For your first game, try to keep workers active, complete one military building and move a mixed group safely across the map. Check the minimap before sending the whole army forward. If the match goes badly, the result screen and its practical match tip can help identify one thing to change next time. You can return to training or arrange a rematch without learning a different set of rules.
